Here's an interesting statistical comparison:
|Marcus Mariota, versus Stanford||20||34||250||58.8||7.35||2||0||140.0|
|Jameis Winston versus Auburn||20||35||237||57.1||6.77||2||0||132.9|
It's interesting because the numbers are nearly identical, but the perception was entirely different. Mariota's team lost in Palo Alto, and he fell completely out of the Heisman race, because he had "choked" in a big game. Winston's team won the National Championship, so he gets credit for a big comeback (Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports).
Mariota fell completely out of the Heisman race after the Stanford loss and a subsequent loss to Arizona despite playing on one leg.
Proving once again that quarterbacks get way too much credit when they win, and too much blame when they lose.
I thought the REFEREE's pretty much decided the outcome of the Game when they called that Pass interference call with what just under 38 second's left in the game. The call was IFFY at best and how dare the Officials decide the outcome of the National Championship. It was totally awful. I don't like either Team Because I wanted to see in the worst way the SEC's end of 7, but I also didn't want to see a guy that probably got away with RAPE that really didn't have better stat's than our own Marcus, who clearly is a better QB and ESPN is a TOOL for the SEC anyway's and the East Coast, besides the point FSU's Fan's are so Arrogant it was hard to root for them too. Oregon along with Marcus have to make their own Magic because ESPN and their SO CALLED EXPERT's at what I still haven't figured it out are all Oregon Hater's, So hopefully the day after we beat Texas the Coach's are on their QUEST in making next 2015 a reality in not only getting to the 4 Team Playoff, but actually winning it all. Todd Orlando I believe will be the next DC and he will take the TOP Talent that has cumulated here over the last 5 years and whats about to be added here and finally makes this Defense a TOP 10 unit thats Aggressive against the Run as well as the Pass because we've always had the Horses to do that type of D it's just that Aliotti was getting BURNT out and now Bigger and Better things are in store for Oregon and the Fans now. WTD.
Great catch. Winston showed some holes in his game for the second time this year. A great defense can slow a great offense with a qb down. I hope Mark H makes a great defense coordinator hire. And yes a health MM is better than Winston.
It was striking how similar the numbers were. Both are good quarterbacks and Winston was a defensible choice as a Heisman winner except for the questionable off-field behavior that never got properly investigated. Somehow Mariota got branded a "choke" by some people are posting good but not great numbers while playing hurt. Duck Territory says the defensive coordinator search is focusing on Todd Orlando of Utah State and Clancy Pendergast. Both are good coaches with excellent track records. I still like Neal but understand the appeal of each.
Yes he CHOKED all right, he had a BAD KNEE, and a Offensive Line let him down again against the tree's. Also Aliotti refused after Halftime to adjust to a 1 Dimensional Offense with enough D Line Depth to play 4 and 5 man fronts with IFO and Mitchell playing Man on the Corners and I Guarantee Stanford would not of kept getting 1st downs like they were or they wouldn't of kept GASHING us. Aliotti even said the same thing, so it's no wonder he was LET GO, I mean allegedly RETIRED. Bring on Orlando, it's time for some NEW BLOOD and NEW Idea's, It's called ATTACK the Run Game and Pass Game especially when you have the HORSES to do it.
